Witeithie

Witeithie

Just 10km before you arrive in Thika from Nairobi, is the humble developments of Witeithie township. The main economic activity is small scale informal businesses here and there. Majority work in Thika Town. The area has a population close to 50,000 people mainly youths.

Witeithie has been on the minds of many motorists as a place on Thika Road that you do not want your car to breakdown. Legend has it that due to the previous state of Thika Road, if your car broke down near Witheithe especially at night, chances were that you would be car jacked. The name Witeithie means "Help Yourself" in the Kikuyu language.

But all that has changed, thanks to the work by Sheng Li Eng (Contractor for this section). The huge escarpments that created a dark spot even during the day were removed. and security has improved, -mark the words I've used, -improved. Chances of you being mugged have reduced, but that dosn't mean that you go stopping to admire the landscape.
