As footbridges are being setup on Thika Road, this green zig-zag designed footbridge at Pangani is causing discussions and many like it.

Pangani Footbridge

The Pangani Footbridge is the latest addition to the structural complexity of the whole Pangani area. The contractor has used this section of the highway project to market his creativity and show off the prowess of his workmanship.

No doubt it stands out due to the very nature that its not ideally straight like the rest. But the main reason for this structure was to provide a safer way to cross the highway and this must not be overlooked, sadly it is. The very customer that this bridge was to serve, well is least interested! Many see it as a time-waster opting to dash among the numerous lanes below, risking their lives.

It can be humiliating even to thy soul when you loose your life below such a good bridge that could have saved your life.

We must develop a culture of making use of this multimillion structure or else the scrap metal thieves shall. The bridge now rest like the others waiting for the commissioning of Thika Road in early October. Have a look...

Police estimate that since January 1, more than 70 people have died on Thika Road, and another 142 on other Nairobi roads. The statistics do not include those who succumb to injuries in hospitals, which would make the toll much higher. The new highway was designed to open up transport into Nairobi from the satellite municipalities of Thika and Kiambu and surrounding settlements. How many more lives must be lost on the killer highway before somebody finds a solution to the carnage?
