Nyahururu Motorists Protest Over Road Construction Delays

The motorists have asked the government to cancel a tender awarded to a private company for the road repair at a cost of Sh800 million and accused the contractor of doing shoddy work.

Motorists plying along Nyahururu-Gilgil road have protested the alleged delay in the rehabilitation of the road. They accused a company that has been contracted to recarpet the road of unnecessary delays, saying the road was in deplorable condition and was a risk to users.

Their spokesman David Njuguna said they have been forced to use alternative routes to Nairobi, leading to huge losses. The motorists have asked the government to cancel a tender awarded to a private company for the road repair at a cost of Sh800 million and accused the contractor of doing shoddy work.

"How can it take a whole year to repair only a few kilometres of the road? The Roads ministry should send its officials to monitor the work," Njuguna said.
