Thika Road Blog Embu GTI Tour
The Thika Road Blog was in Embu from Wednesday till Saturday for the 10th Annual Exhibition by Kenyan Universities at the Government Training Institute, GTI. Embu is a town located approximately 120 kilometres (75 mi) northeast of Nairobi towards Mount Kenya. Embu serves as the provincial headquarters of Eastern Province in Kenya and is also the district headquarters of Embu District. Located on the southeastern slopes of Mount Kenya, the town of Embu has a population of 41,092 (as of 1999).
The event, organized by the Commission for Higher Education, CHE was a chance for all Kenyan universities to showcase their courses, market themselves and even offer on-the-spot admission to students. It was open to the public and ran from 15th to 17th March 2012.
I was there to showcase The Thika Road Blog on a Mount Kenya University(MKU) ticket. MKU was my former university. The event was like no other. Universities from across Kenya came to grasp the opportunity to capture the minds and attention of the secondary students who seemed confused and spoilt for choice. For some, however it was a competition for the most brochures and freebies.....sad.
At the MKU stand, where I was all was well and despite the high temperatures in the mega tent which housed us, students came in large numbers which made us very tired..
Government Training Institute, Embu is in Kenya's Eastern Province, about 138 kilometres east of Nairobi. The institute is located 3 kilometres from Embu Town centre along the Embu-Meru road.
The Government Training Institute, Embu is mandated by the Government of Kenya to develop, organize and conduct professional and other training programmes in management, administration, finance, accounting, information communication technology, research and consultancy, rural develop and social studies for the staff of government ministries, local authorities, state corporations, co-operative societies, non-governmental organizations and members of the public who require such training.
...And that was the Embu GTI Tour 2012. This event made me come face to face with fans of Thika Road Blog. Just to say, most people who came to the stand were saying....."You are the guy for the Thika Road Blog??!!......congrats and good work.I have been wanting to meet you someday"
On behalf of the entire Thika Road Blog team, I would like to thank Mount Kenya University for giving me this opportunity to showcase Thika Road Blog and also to the staff and students who we came along with to Embu...you guys are amazing. This opportunity could not have come at a better time.
Shortcomings for the trip however were. I misplaced my 8GB Mem-Card+Reader with pics inside. Was a great loss so if anyone comes across it pliz contact us.
Rest is now over, back to work. Updates on Thika Road coming tomorrow.
