The SGR Railway Sleeper Specifications
The standard railway sleeper weighs in the class of 300kg and spans 2.5 meters in length. As oposed to the old system of using steel for the sleepers, the steel reinforced sleepers handle better and suport the load in all weather conditions.
For the SGR Project, steel reinforced sleepers are made at various factories along the new line. On of these factories is based at Section 7 and it churns out up to 100 sleepers per-day. After production the sleepers are tested for structural failures before installation.
The SGR Project's sleepers have a height of 235mm at the highest point. 175 mm at the lowest point. It spans 2500mm from end to end and weights upto 300kg. From the mid poit to the farthest end it measures 1250mm. The diameter for the mounting bolts have a diameter of 65mm. It can withstand upto 170 kN which is roughly equivalent to a fully loaded train passing on the sleeper.
